TENSILE TEST

TENSILE TEST:

A tensile test, also known as tension test, is probably the most fundamental type of mechanical test you can perform on material. Tensile tests are simple, relatively inexpensive, and fully standardized. By pulling on something, you will very quickly determine how the material will react to forces being applied in tension. As the material is being pulled, you will find its strength along with how much it will elongate.

                                          Universal Testing Machine (UTM)

A universal testing machine (UTM), also known as a universal tester, materials testing machine or materials test frame, is used to test the tensile strength and compressive strength of materials.

Tensile Test Samples:

Material to be tested must be cut to a specific shape so as to fit the grips, most usually in the form of a dog-bone shape when flat sheet is being tested. The sheet is cut or machined to shape, and great care is needed to create a smooth edge. If defects are left, the result may be premature failure from the defect, thus under-estimating tensile strength.
