MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF METALS
The term property may be defined as the quality, which defines the
specific characteristics of a metal. Study of all the properties of a metal
provides a sound basis for predicting its behavior in manufacturing shop and
also in actual use. The following properties of a metal are important for an
engineer, to enable him in selecting suitable metals for his various jobs.
The mechanical properties
of a metal which are completely define its behavior under the action of
external loads or forces. Or mechanical properties are those properties which
are associated with its ability to resist failure as well as behavior under the
action of External forces. A sound knowledge of these properties is very essential
for an engineer to enable him in selecting a suitable metal for his various
