FELINE

Designer Yacouba Galle reveals the Feline One, his latest motorcycle project. Unlike other of his ideas, the Feline One will actually become available in 2016, but it will be a treat to those who are both bold and wealthy. That is, bold enough to throw a leg over such an uncanny motorbike, and wealthy because the rumored price tag reads a hefty $280,000, which in Europe today weighs around €250,000. Yacouba himself describes the bike as being much more than a motorcycle: “FELINE is the combination of sophistication and high technology for highly demanding customers looking for innovative and unique novelties,” he says. “During 10 years I tested the best machines around the world and my conclusion has been to make a synthesis of two worlds: the best that I encountered and my vision of the motorbike of the future, FELINE was born!” adds he. Modern design meets high-tech materials Feline one is not just another bike concept with futuristic looks. Yacouba Gall...

Mechanical behavior of Al-Sic-Zn-Cu Metal Matrix Composite

Aluminum is the world‘s most abundant metal and is the third most common element, comprising 8% of the earth’s crust. The versatility of aluminum makes it the most widely used metal after steel. After iron, aluminum is now the second most widely used metal in the world. This is because aluminum has a unique combination of attractive properties. Low weight, high strength, superior malleability, easy machining, excellent corrosion resistance and good thermal and electrical conductivity are amongst aluminum’s most important properties. Aluminum is also very easy to recycle. A unique combination of properties makes aluminum and its alloys one of the most versatile engineering and construction material available today. A metal matrix composite (MMC) is composite material with at least two constituent parts, one being a metal. MMCs are made by dispersing a reinforcing material into a metal matrix. The matrix is the ...

PROPERTIES DEFINITIONS

Strength :                    Strength is defined as the ability of a material to resists loads without failure. It is expressed in terms of maximum load per unit area called as ultimate strength or maximum stress . Material can withstand without failure and it various according to the type of loading. Tensile Strength:                    Ultimate tensile strength (UTS), often shortened to tensile strength (TS) or ultimate strength, is the maximum stress that a material can withstand while being stretched or pulled before failing or breaking. Tensile strength is not the same as compressive strength and the values can be quite different. Some materials will break sharply, without plastic deformation, in what is called a brittle failure. Others, which are more ductile, including most metals, will exp...

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF METALS

The term property may be defined as the quality, which defines the specific characteristics of a metal. Study of all the properties of a metal provides a sound basis for predicting its behavior in manufacturing shop and also in actual use. The following properties of a metal are important for an engineer, to enable him in selecting suitable metals for his various jobs.                      The mechanical properties of a metal which are completely define its behavior under the action of external loads or forces. Or mechanical properties are those properties which are associated with its ability to resist failure as well as behavior under the action of External forces. A sound knowledge of these properties is very essential for an engineer to enable him in selecting a suitable metal for his various structures or various components of a ma...
